We are a clinical rotation site for medical students, PA students, and interested residents from the U. of New England, U. Mass Medical School, and the Dartmouth School of Medicine. Stefan Topolski is an assistant professor at the U. of Massachusetts Medical School and the Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency Program. We offer mentoring and shadowing programs for young people at the high school and college level. We have presented at conferences of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, the Society for Chaos in the Psychology and Life Sciences, and at the North American Primary Care Research Group.
We hope to teach sailing and seamanship to youth of all ages. We're now completing a year-long boat restoration nine years late :) The web photos don't do the various boats justice, but for a true boat lover it doesn't take any imagination to fill in the rest of their beauty...
With the help of the nonprofit John Gardner School of Boatbuilding in Annapolis, we found a classic S&S sailing yawl named Chance. She's the sister ship of the famous Loki skippered by Gifford Pinchot, and both boats won their share of big races.
She was built by Albert Lemos and a vibrant Portuguese immigrant community in Riverside, R.I. in 1948. Her LOA is 39'4", Beam 9'+, Draft 5'6", displacing about 12k#.
This is the third wooden boat rebuild I've participated in. She is in beautiful shape, floating now and almost ready for open water. If you have any non-profit project dreams for her, give us a call. We'd love to work with you!
